What is the Secret to Longevity?

by | Care

The goal of Closing the Gap in Health is to educate everyone, but focuses on African Americans and the underserved.  It is well documented that black people, as a rule, have the shortest lifespan and the worse quality of life than any other group of people on earth.

A review of the literature focused on the answer to the longevity question and some very interesting, but not surprising, information was found.  People who live the longest and have the most active lives reside in the five areas of the world known as the “Blue Zones.”  These people become centenarians with ease.

These are some of the lifestyle habits to which they adhere:

  • Eating the “Mediterranean diet,” a plant based diet
  • Fasting
  • Exercising such as walking and gardening
  • Taking naps regularly
  • Spending substantial time with family and friends
  • Drinking large amounts water
  • Eating a light dinner in the early evening
Your opinion matters.
