The Trump Syndrome

Do you remember when Trump declared that he knew more about war than known by the military generals collectively?

Believe it or not, there are some patients with this mindset and I refer to it as the Trump Syndrome.  It does not occur frequently, but they will tell the physician, at a visit for a medical issue, how they should be treated.  This is really annoying and I try to remain calm, most of the time.

Patients are unaware that physicians are observed by fellow physicians, hospitals, and insurance companies to determine if they are practicing the standard of medical care.

There is also a medical board to which physicians must provide an account if they deviate from the standard of care.

Insurance companies are rewarding physicians for keeping their patients healthy.
